In response, Kentucky Horseshoeing School has developed what we believe to be one of the most comprehensive and career-focused farrier training programs in the United States.
The Farrier Science Program combines classroom instruction with intensive laboratory and hands-on workshop training to prepare students for professional careers in the farrier industry. Through proven teaching methods and a structured, progressive curriculum, students develop a strong foundation in the principles of sound farriery supported by the scientific knowledge and technical skills required for long-term professional success.
Students receive instruction in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and equine locomotion while developing an understanding of equine conformation and its influence on both the developmental stages of young horses and the performance of mature equine athletes. Emphasis is placed on proper trimming and shoeing techniques designed to achieve and maintain optimal hoof balance, limb alignment, and soundness.
Training extends beyond the routine shoeing of sound horses and includes practical instruction in shoe fabrication, forging, welding, and the application of both manufactured and handmade shoes. Students gain experience using modern farrier materials and techniques while developing the practical problem-solving skills required in professional practice.
