Federal and State Student Grants

Federal and State Aid programs are designed to provide financial assistance to those students who have demonstrated financial need. These funds are considered “gift aid” because they do not have to be they do not have to be repaid. Some examples of Federal and State Grants:

Imagine America is one of the few scholarship programs available to high school seniors interested in a career college education. Through this innovative and far-reaching program, three graduating seniors from every high school in the United States and Puerto Rico each year are eligible to receive a $1,000 Imagine America scholarship.

Any high school senior who is planning on attending a participating career school or college is eligible for the Imagine America scholarship. Students must meet standard admissions requirements and other guidelines including:

1. High school GPA of 2.5 or greater (on a 4.0 scale)

2. Financial need
3. Demonstrated voluntary community service during their senior year and

4. Likelihood of successfully completing post-secondary education.

Financial Assistance in the form of loans and grants is available to qualified students. There are also scholarship opportunities. KHS makes every possible effort to aid those students who need financial assistance in order to complete their college programs. Applicants in need should apply for financial assistance at the same time they apply for admission to Kentucky Horseshoeing School.

Students seeking financial assistance through any of the available programs should request information and appropriate financial aid counseling from KHS. The Financial Aid Administrator will be pleased to assist in completing and submitting all forms to the appropriate agency/lender. The student is responsible for providing accurate information. Financial aid consists of Grants, Scholarships and Loans. Please remember that loans must be repaid and should not be considered entitlements.

There is a wide variety of scholarship opportunities available, all with different criteria.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The FSEOG is awarded to students with exceptional financial need – those with the lowest Expected Family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA. The award is administered directly by the financial aid office. Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority for FSEOG awards. Detailed information can be found on the Department of Education website.

Under the U.S. Department of Education reminded all institutions of higher education participating in the Section 18004(a)(1) CARES Act grant program, the Kentucky Horseshoeing School, Inc. in the state of KY and at OPE ID 04239600, has received $44930 in Student Aid.

• Kentucky Horseshoeing School has signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
• $44,930.00 has been in Emergency Financial Aid Grants has been distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission.
• KHS estimates a total of 30 students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
• 31 students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
• Kentucky Horseshoeing School uses the Student EFC as determined by their ISIR, in addition to a written application required by all students who desire emergency aid to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Student Instructions:

The COVID-19 Emergency Assistance fund helps with education-related expenses associated with the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19. This fund is reserved for students who are currently enrolled in a program that met on campus prior to the transition to online classes.  At this time the maximum amount of emergency assistance that will be provided by this grant is $2,000.00. This funding is not limited to students who are eligible to receive federal financial aid.

Please complete an application for assistance, located at the admissions desk, and return to the KHS financial aid office. The financial aid office will review your request and may contact you for further information. If funding is approved, the grant funds will be disbursed to your student account. Disbursements from this fund will only be applied to an outstanding balance on your student account with written approval from the student.

As of May 1, 2022, all emergency aid funds have been distributed.

Financial Aid: Find Out More – Know Your Options

1. Apply and be accepted for admission to Kentucky Horseshoeing School.
2. Apply for financial aid by completing the Interview and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA online at www.studentaid.gov. (Students who have previously applied for aid and have supplied the Department of Education with an email address, will be sent notifications electronically via e-mail.
3. When completing the FAFSA, be sure to list Kentucky Horseshoeing School in the school section of the application using our Federal School Code of 001602. This will allow us to receive an electronic copy of the application.(Students should also be certain that all necessary signatures are included.)
4. In no more than four weeks, the student will receive an e-mail notification with a direct link to the student’s online Student Aid Report (SAR). If an e-mail address was not provided on the application, the information will be mailed to the student. An electronic copy will also be sent to KHS if so indicated. Please carefully read the comment section on the SAR to determine if any further action is required to complete the application process. If any information is incorrect, follow the instructions provided on the SAR.
5. Please register online at CampusIvy to link your FAFSA application to the Kentucky Horseshoeing School Financial Aid system.
6. Verification is the process by which the U.S. Department of Education requires schools to check a certain percentage of their financial aid applications for accuracy. If the application is selected, the student will be asked to submit additional information to the Financial Aid Office. (At a minimum, possible documentation will include a completed verification worksheet, student’s federal tax transcript, and if applicable, the parent’s or spouse’s tax transcript).
7. Parents of dependent students, may apply for a Direct PLUS Loan, online at www.studentaid.gov. Parents will start the Federal Direct PLUS application process and sign the master promissory note online using the parent’s FAFSA PIN.
8. Students will be notified via their school email of their eligibility for financial aid through either an electronic Award Letter or explanation of ineligibility. This notification is typically sent within a few weeks. However, it will take longer during peak processing times.
9. Be sure to report to the Financial Aid Office, in writing, any pending outside scholarships.

How Financial Aid is Determined

Change Information

Awards are based on the information students provide on applications for aid. Changes to that information (marital status, number of dependents, place of residence, withdrawal from period of enrollment, reduction in the number of hours carried, change in academic program, Social Security or Veteran’s Benefits, etc.) must be reported promptly in writing to the Financial Aid Office for a determination of the impact, if any, on the amount of funds awarded to the student. It is often necessary to revise awards, especially if federal or state funds are a part of the award, in order to avoid exceeding your demonstrated financial eligibility.

The Financial Aid Office must, therefore, reserve and/or modify the student’s award at any time. Failure to contact the Financial Aid Office may jeopardize continuation of aid, cause cancellation of aid, or require repayment of funds already disbursed to the student. All awards are contingent upon the availability of funds.

Enrollment Status

Requirements for the number of clock hours of credit the student must maintain for loans, scholarships, grants, and work may vary. At KHS, financial aid is packaged based upon anticipated full-time enrollment: 40 clock hours of instruction per week.

Repayment

Students who register, then withdraw, DROP DOWN out, are expelled, or change enrollment status are subject to the Department of Education’s regulations regarding return of Title IV Federal Aid, and may have to repay a portion or all of the aid received to the University.

Outside Scholarships

Be aware that hometown churches, clubs, professional organizations, and civic groups sometimes offer scholarships. Students who are awarded a scholarship from a source other than Kentucky Horseshoeing School should contact the Financial Aid Office for further information. For more information on any scholarship questions, contact the Financial Aid Office at 859-575-4063.


Any resources that a student receives or expects to receive should be reported promptly to the Financial Aid Office. The receipt of other resources may result in reduction, cancellation, and/or repayment of need-based aid.
